Housewarming Party

Image via Bakerella
This past weekend, we finally threw our housewarming party. We have been painting, cleaning and unpacking for about 2 months, and it was finally ready to be shown off. My friend Kathy Phan is always making delicious baked goods, so I was inspired to make some treats for the party. She posted some red-velvet cookie sandwiches from Bakerella a while back. I have tried to make these before, but I made the cookies too big and the sandwiches were massive and really rich. This time I put the batter into a ziplock bag and snipped off a corner to squeeze out quarter size drops of batter onto the cookie sheet. I also took the cookies out of the oven a few minutes early so they would be soft in the middle. They turned out delicious and everyone loved them.

I also made Oreo Dreamers, a recipe from my cousin. I have never made them by myself, but I have helped Lolly make them before. They are really good and look like little truffles. Also, the recipe is ridiculously easy!

1 package oreos
8 oz cream cheese
1.5 bags milk chocolate chips

1. Crush oreos in blender.
2. Soften cream cheese to room temperature and knead into crushed oreos with your hands.
3. Roll batter into 3/4 inch balls and let set in freezer for about 30 mins.
4. Melt chocolate chips in double boiler or in microwave (if you microwave them, once the chips start to soften, stir them until they melt together. It is really easy to burn chocolate in the microwave, so make sure your power setting is at 50% and heat for 30 seconds at a time.)
5. Dip the balls into the melted chocolate and let harden on wax paper.
6. Refrigerate until served.

ASOS Jewelry and Fashion

Asos is a UK-based online store with clothing, jewelry and accessories. Some items are really expensive, but they have a great selection of accessories that are around $10. And even though they are based in the UK, standard shipping is really cheap. When I ordered two of these leaf necklaces, the total cost was $20.22. No tax, and free shipping!

You Could Make That: Monogrammed Necklace

Monogrammed necklaces are still really popular, and you can find them on plenty of designer websites for a few hundred dollars. Or, you could make it. I found these gold-plated discs here for about $15. They offer engraving, but I did not like their font choices. So I bought it plain, and took it to Things Remembered in my local mall (most jewelry stores offer an engraving service). They monogrammed the disc for $6. I chose the script font, but they have other options which you can see here. I strung the charm on a gold chain that I already had, but I easily found some gold-filled chains for about $11-$13 on Amazon. I love my necklace, and made it for about $350 less than a designer monogrammed necklace.

Introduction

Hi, we are Kate and Lolly. We are two sisters who love design. Kate lives in Savannah, Georgia, and is a design student. Lolly lives in Austin, Texas, and works in communications. Our styles are very similar; we like to mix high-end pieces with flea market finds and are not afraid to get our hands dirty. Kate is really into furniture and jewelry, while Lolly loves to bake and decorate. We are constantly in search of the perfect fabric.
